Join the UVA Division for Community Engagement and Equal Opportunity on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at the UVA Chapel for a ceremony that centers community, honors history, and calls us forward together.
Hosted in partnership with the Descendants of Enslaved Communities at UVA, this celebration will begin as the Chapel bells toll at noon, creating space for a shared moment of silence. From there, the program will uplift voices from across our community through prayer, proclamation, music, movement, and message.
Highlights will include:
- Solos by Rev. Dr. Xavier V. Jackson, Pastor of Chapman Grove Baptist Church
- A reading of the City of Charlottesville Resolution by Mayor Juandiego Wade
- A liturgical dance performance by Veronica Price-Thomas
- A keynote address from Apostle Sarah A. Kelley
The Chapel bells will toll once more at 1:00 p.m., guiding us into a closing hymn before we continue fellowship over lunch in the Lower West Oval of the Rotunda.
This event is free and open to the public, and we warmly encourage you to register to ensure lunch seating. Guests who register will also receive complimentary parking.
