At the Center for Community Partnerships (CCP), we believe that strong communities are built on shared knowledge, action-oriented research, and data-rich advocacy. We’re excited to share the latest update to our Local School Demographics resource, a tool designed to help families, resource providers, policymakers, and neighbors better understand the vibrant makeup of our region’s public schools.
What is the ‘Local Schools Demographics’ Resource?
The Local School Demographics resource is an annually updated data snapshot of public-school enrollment across districts in the greater Charlottesville region: Albemarle County, Augusta County, Buckingham County, Charlottesville City, Fluvanna County, Green County, Louisa County, Madison County, Nelson County, Orange County, Staunton City, and Waynesboro City. This resource captures information provided by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) on student demographics including race and ethnicity, economic status, and English learner status.
The resource is presented as an interactive map of the region and sortable data tables that bring these numbers to life so you can discover patterns and trends across school divisions.
How to Use This Resource
Whether you’re a parent, student, resource provider, community advocate, or simply curious about local schools, here are a few ways you can use this resource:
- Interactive Map
Visualize demographic breakdowns at each school in the region. Hover over or click on schools to compare a school’s make-up with the overall district.
- Sortable Tables
Sort and filter data tables by school name, district, or student membership group to answer questions like:
- Which schools have the highest percentage of English learners?
- How many students are identified as economically disadvantaged in a specific school?
- Downloadable Data
Anyone in the community can download CSV files of data for deeper analysis, storytelling, and to reference while applying for grants.
Intentionally created to be accessible and flexible, we encourage you to use this resource however best supports your work or curiosity.
What You'll Find in the Data
With the February 2026 update, the data reflects Fall Membership, for the 2025-2026 school year and represents the official report of enrollment statistics collected by the VDOE each September.
Why This Matters
The characteristics of children across schools provided in the report -- living in conditions of economic precarity, learning in a new language -- represent experiences that can create barriers to learning. Understanding these broader needs of our children and the schools they attend is an opportunity to better provide the support they need to thrive. The Local School Demographics resource is updated annually to reflect the most recent data available from the VDOE. That means each year you’ll be able to revisit and explore how our schools are changing.
At CCP, our work is rooted in mutually beneficial partnerships and community-engaged scholarship. We created this resource not just to report numbers, but to respond to requests we heard from youth-supporting organizations, to strengthen collaboration among those working to uplift young people, and to spark broader understanding and informed conversations about education in our region.
